Four Hundred Acre Salt River Bottom Boardering the Ranch
|
25" Hybrid Trout, South Fork
- Salt River - Outside Our Gate
Cutthroat, Brown Trout
-
The Salt is a fairly small river with consistent flows allowing us to fish
year-round. A good number of medium size Cutthroat can be expected on an
average day but the willow lined undercut banks hold some huge Browns. A
recent study by the Game and Fish concluded that 70% of the fish caught in
the Salt are Cutthroat but 70% of the fish in the river are Browns. Great
potential!
- Snake River - 5 miles
Cutthroat, Brown Trout
- The Snake River upstream from Alpine, the "white
water section", consistently produces some of the best catches in the area from
mid July to late September.
- Greys River - 5 miles
Cutthroat
- The Greys river is the most wade friendly river
in the area. This pristine, 60 mile section of river is entirely spring fed
and flows through the Wyoming and Salt River Mountain Ranges.
- Palisades Reservoir - 5 miles
Cutthroat, Brown Trout, Lake Trout, Kokanee Salmon
- This is great place for the lake fisherman!
In addition, several small streams feed Palisades including Big Elk Creek,
Indian Creek, Bear Creek, and McCoy Creek. With a small amount of hiking,
these creeks can provide a great, peaceful day of fishing with a good chance
of not seeing another fisherman.
- South Fork of the Snake River - 20 miles
Cutthroat, Rainbows, Hybrids, and Browns
- The South Fork is a world class section of the
Snake River with larger hatches including the notorious salmon fly hatch in the
first part of July. During this time 50 to 100 fish days are not uncommon.
Year round fishing is now open on the South Fork giving opportunity at some
larger fish.
21" Salt River Cutthroat Trout
- Hoback River - 30 miles
Cutthroat
-
The Hoback is a small, boulder filled river flowing
into the Snake 24 miles upstream from Alpine. The adjacent road easily accesses
the Hoback, and its steeper gradient makes for several deep fishing
holes.
- Green River - 70 miles
Rainbows, Big Browns
- The Green is a bit of a drive, but worth it! The
Green is a smaller river meandering through the meadows and ranch lands at the
base of the Wind River Mountain Range. The Green's best fishing is usually in
the month of June, although any gray sky day will likely increase your odds
dramatically. Over twenty inch fish are fairly common on this river. If size
matters, spend some time on the Green.
- Other fishing
- This is only a small sample of the fishing in the
area. Many other mountain lakes, rivers, and creeks can be accessed with a
slightly longer drive, including Teton Park and Yellowstone.
